Our mission is providing affordable community health literacy services to all community members. They can be an employee of a corporation, a member of a community group such as a church or civic organization, or a fellow BJC employee. We contract with groups except for health coaching services.

Our goal is to provide quality health education, awareness and screenings for minimal cost. We are a not-for-profit organization and charge a nominal fee to cover a portion of our expenses.

Our staff consists of health-care professionals with varied backgrounds who come together and blend their expertise. Our staff includes:

  • Certified diabetes educators

Community Partnerships

BJC School Outreach and Youth Development  was formed in 1991 to assist St. Louis-area school districts address behaviors deemed extremely harmful to young people by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These six types of high-risk behavior are tobacco use; substance abuse; poor nutrition; lack of physical fitness; risky sexual behaviors; and violence, injury and safety.

OASIS is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for mature adults through programs in the arts, humanities, wellness, technology and volunteer service. Opportunities are available for personal growth, improved health and meaningful service to the community.

One of the most important programs offered by OASIS is HealthStages, a health promotion program that helps older adults identify health risks and make appropriate behavior changes.

BJC HealthCare's Commitment to Our Own Employees

The BJC HealthCare Health Literacy Program began in 2003 to encourage BJC employees to learn about and improve their health by reducing lifestyle-related risk factors. This initiative for employees is an extension of BJC's commitment to improving health in the community.

In this vein, BJC introduced Help for Your Health  to encourage its own employees to become more aware of their health status and to provide the resources needed to support important lifestyle changes. The site offers sections on diabetes, nutrition, fitness, disease prevention and health resources for the community as well as BJC employees. Site visitors can find healthy recipes, take interactive quizzes and have questions answered by a nutritionist, chef, diabetes educator, exercise specialist or pharmacist.
